Chef Paul has always been a Detroiter.
His parents met here in Detroit and he was born in Detroit.
That, coupled with his decades of culinary expertise and dogged determination to make Detroit a front of mind dining destination, both at The Whitney and for the past 23 years at Cuisine Restaurant, Chef Paul was an easy selection as one of Detroit’s featured Chefs in the upcoming PBS documentary entitled; Detroit: The City of Chefs.
The film’s Executive Producer/Director and himself a rather well known Chef, Keith Famie, of Visionalist Entertainment Productions, has been producing Emmy award-winning documentary films, as well as impactful, emotionally engaging stories for corporate clients, since 2006.
Keith takes us back to the early 1960’s and traces Detroit’s culinary history and its evolution, through the eyes and experiences of some of its most famous chefs, restauranteurs, wine experts and event venue personalities.
Among the Chef legends are Chefs Milos Cihelka, Douglas Grech, Dan Hugelier, Ed Janos, Brian Polcyn, Rick Halberg, Jeff Gabriel, Mary Brady, Nick Janutol, Shawn Loving, Joe Decker, Kevin Brennan, Steve Allen, Kevin Gawronski, Jimmy Schmidt, Bonnie Fishman, Luciano DelSignore, Joe Muer Jr., Roger Kreager and Dan Lowry.
And, of course, our own Chef Paul Grosz.
Sprinkled here and there are also front of the house stars, the early food critics, key purveyors, Detroit’s prominent culinary colleges and a feature on today’s leading local Detroit and Michigan restaurants.
To be amongst this A-list of Detroit’s culinary giants and industry leaders, is truly an honor.
In anticipation of its fall release, a preview event, celebrating Detroit’s culinary heritage entitled; the Legends of the Stove, was held at the Detroit Athletic Club on the evening of Monday, January 15th, 2024. You might notice Chef Paul at the top of the staircase.
Certified Master Chef, Shawn Loving, of the Detroit Athletic Club, orchestrating this dinner by inviting some of Detroit’s iconic chefs from days gone by, along with current chefs of Detroit’s leading restaurants, to cook together for the benefit of three local charities: Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit, The Rainbow Connection and the Rising Stars Academy.
