Lightening can indeed strike twice in the same place as the Detroit Free Press, announced on March 5th, 2024 that Cuisine Restaurant had won its 2024 Restaurant of the Year Classic award.
Also awarded as the Detroit Free Press’s Restaurant of the Year honoree in 2002 in only Cuisine’s 2nd year of operation, Cuisine restaurant now becomes the paper’s first restaurant to have won both award categories.
In addition to the restaurant’s prestigious award, Chef Paul was personally awarded the Sylvia Rector Lifetime Achievement Award for Hospitality, named in honor of the late Detroit Free Press Food and Restaurant Critic, Sylvia Rector.
The newly established Restaurant of the Year “Classic”, is a welcomed addition to the yearly honors given out by the city’s publications and media outlets as quite typically, the awards are heavily influenced by, and awarded to, the city’s newest, trendiest and “hottest” restaurants.
Unfortunately, as is the case throughout the industry, even the best of restaurants, fail in less than 5 years, let alone 10, 15, or in the case of Cuisine, 23 years!
Some restaurants only stay “so hot”, for only so long…
To be as vibrant, and as consistently excellent as Cuisine has been throughout many challenging times in Detroit, including downturns in the auto industry, a city bankruptcy, and Covid 19, is a testament to something truly special.
To recognize these very special restaurants who have endured it all, and are as relevant today as they were the day they opened, is, in itself, a lifetime achievement award of sorts.
Congratulations to Cuisine, Chef Paul Grosz and the entire staff at the restaurant who collectively made this year’s special award come to fruition.
Of course, the most important thank you’s go out to all of Cuisine’s special guests and patrons who, over all of these many years, have made these awards possible.
